Currently, we have vacancies for volunteers. Why volunteer with APNA daycare?

We will be exploring different ways to create opportunities for all age groups particularly younger people through work experience, apprenticeships and volunteering.Volunteering at an elderly people day care centre is a deeply rewarding experience that offers numerous benefits to the volunteers and the elderly individuals they assist. APNA daycare centre will provide a supportive environment where older adults can engage in social activities, receive care, and enjoy companionship, all of which contribute to their overall well-being.

Companionship and Social Interaction

  • Chatting and Listening:Spending time talking with the elderly, listening to their stories, and providing emotional support.
  • Playing Games:Engaging in board games, card games, or puzzles to stimulate mental activity and provide entertainment.
  • Organising Activities:Helping to plan and facilitate activities such as arts and crafts, music sessions, and gentle exercise classes.

Assistance with Daily Tasks

  • Serving Meals:Assisting with meal preparation and serving food, ensuring that dietary needs are met.
  • Mobility Support:Helping individuals move around the centre safely, whether it’s walking, using a wheelchair, or other mobility aids.
  • Personal Care:Assisting with personal hygiene tasks, such as helping with handwashing or guiding the elders to the washroom.

Health and Wellness

  • Exercise Programs:Leading or assisting with gentle exercise routines to promote physical health and mobility.
  • Health Monitoring:Supporting staff with basic health checks, such as monitoring blood pressure or reminding individuals to take their medication.

Recreational Activities

  • Arts and Crafts:Guiding and participating in creative projects that allow the elderly to express themselves and stay engaged.
  • Music and Entertainment:Playing musical instruments, singing, or organizing movie sessions to create a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.
  • Outings and Trips:Accompanying the elderly on short trips or outings, ensuring they have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Administrative Support

  • Record Keeping:Assisting with maintaining records of activities, attendance, and any special needs or preferences of the elderly.
  • Event Planning:Helping to organise special events, celebrations, or themed days to keep the environment vibrant and engaging.

Emotional and Psychological Support

  • Providing Comfort:Offering a comforting presence, especially to those who may feel lonely or anxious.
  • Encouraging Participation:Motivating and encouraging the elderly to participate in activities and socialise with others.

Training and Development

  • Learning Opportunities:Participating in training sessions to better understand the needs of the elderly and how to support them effectively.
  • Skill Development:Developing new skills that can be applied both within the centre and in other areas of life.
